Green Values: Environmental sustainability and moderation in religious teachings

Abstract:

Purpose: The study aims to explore sustainability through the lens of green values and seeks to uncover how Quranic principles provides a foundation for sustainable living. By examining key Quranic verses, the study aims to demonstrate how Islamic teachings advocate for the protection of nature and the preservation of the environment for future generations
Design/Methodology: In this study, PRISMA framework has been used to ensure a systematic review of literature. Extensive searches across three major academic databases: EBSCO HOST, Emerald, and JSTOR were performed. The gathered literature was analyzed to deepen our understanding of how Quranic principles address ecological concerns. Additionally, key verses from the Quran and Hadith that highlight environmental stewardship were integrated into study.
Findings: This study demonstrates that Quran and Hadith supports environmental preservation, mindful consumption and obligation towards nature. Wherein humans are permitted to take advantage of natural resources and obligated to omit over consumption and wastage. Also, nature is viewed as a trust from God, reinforcing the importance of preserving it for future generations.
Research Limitation: The scope of this research is restricted to evaluation done of academic works on sustainability with view of Islamic perspective with present published articles available on various Journals and databases.
Implications: The results of this study can be utilized as a reference point for comprehending how Islamic teaching plays emphasis on environmental preservation. Additionally, it can be used for awareness programs for behavior change and guidance for imbibing green values preached by the religious texts which are taken seriously.
Value: This study contributes uniquely by linking green values from Islamic theology with contemporary sustainability discourse. It emphasizes that the Quran and Sunnah offer timeless guidance for promoting ecological ethics and building a more sustainable and spiritually connected world.
